tbd

Graduation and the surrounding ceremonies are a wonderful way to finish your college career. Use this information to make sure you are able to walk across that stage.

When do I apply for graduation?

Apply for graduation at least two semesters before you plan to graduate for early feedback from advisors on graduation requirements.

Check the academic calendar for application deadlines.

How do I apply for graduation?

Undergraduate Students (B.B.A., B.S.A.)

  1. Complete the application for graduation form.
  2. Submit completed forms to the Bloch School Student Services Office. If you turn the application in to the UMKC Registrar’s Office it will not be processed.

Once the completed application is received, the Bloch School Student Services Office will conduct a degree audit. If you submit your application two semesters in advance of the term you plan to graduate, you will receive a graduation audit and a follow up audit before the start of your final term. If you turn your application in by the Registrar's published deadline, you may receive only a graduation audit. The audit will be sent through Connect to your UMKC student email.

Graduate Students (M.B.A., M.P.A., M.S.A., M.S.E.R.E., M.S.F.)

How do I order my cap and gown?

Regalia (cap, gown, hood, etc.) is ordered through the UMKC Bookstore.

The Fall 2017 Graduation Fair will be held on Tuesday, October 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, October 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Can I still participate in commencement if…

…I am not finished with all of my classes?
Yes. You must be within six hours of having your degree requirements completed.

You will need to fill out your application for graduation form for the semester in which you will finish your degree (not participate in the ceremony).

Please write on your application for graduation that you plan to “Walk in May” or “Walk in December” so we know you plan to participate in the ceremony even though you will not be finished with your program until the following semester.

Questions? Contact the Bloch School Student Services Office.

…I missed the application deadline?
Maybe. It depends on how long ago the deadline was.

Contact our office at 816-235-2215 immediately for your options.

SCHEDULE
4:15 p.m. -
Report to Pierson Auditorium for robing. Bring only the academic regalia you will be wearing. Please arrange to have your guests take any excess baggage (purses, bags, etc.). There will not be security available to protect personal belongings and you should not plan to carry anything with you into Swinney Recreation Center.

Once you have robed, you will need to pick up your name card. Cards will be distributed from tables set up in the auditorium and will be arranged by program in alphabetical order. The 3" by 5" card gives your name and a number designating your position in the procession. Please check the spelling of your name. If your name is difficult to pronounce, please provide it phonetically on the RSVP website. Keep this card with you to hand to the announcer at commencement!

Undergraduates Only: If you are graduating with Latin honors you will receive a medallion to wear with your regalia. You will be notified if you qualify for Latin honors toward the end of November. Your Latin Honor medal will be available with your name card on the day of graduation.

4:55 p.m. -
Processional begins at 4:55 p.m. sharp from Pierson Auditorium to the Swinney Recreation Center. Please line up by 4:45 p.m.

5:00 p.m. -
Procession enters Swinney Recreation Center. The procession begins with the degree candidates and ends with members of the faculty and other platform members. Seating is a complicated process, so watch your Marshal as they will lead you to the correct area. There should be no gaps in seating arrangements.

Remain standing at your seat until the Chief Marshal tells you to be seated. Listen to the speaker's instructions to know when to stand for recognition and watch your Marshal to know when to follow him/her to the stage.

When directed, you will process by row to the right side of the stage, ascend the ramp and hand your 3" by 5" name card to the announcer.

As your name is announced, you will cross the stage, shake hands with the Dean, shake hands with the Chancellor/Provost, have your picture taken, descend the steps on the side of the stage, pose for a second picture, and return to your seat as directed by the Marshal.

At the end of the ceremony, all graduates and participants will leave Swinney Recreation Center in a formal recessional. All participants exit in reverse order (Deans and Faculty, followed by degree recipients). To avoid congestion please do not stop in the Swinney lobby or immediately outside the doors. Make arrangements to meet your family and friends away from the building’s entrance.

DIPLOMAS
Students will receive a diploma cover at the commencement ceremony. Diplomas and official transcripts reflecting the conferral of your degree will be available from the Registration and Records Office, room 115 of the Administrative Center, starting Monday, January 22, 2018. ***Following graduation, please continue to check your UMKC student email for any updates to Latin Honors or outstanding degree requirements after final grades have been posted.

Again, the Bloch School faculty and staff are proud of everything you have accomplished thus far and it is a joy to celebrate this chapter with you. Please keep this email as a reference. There will be no formal rehearsal and we want things to go as smoothly as possible for you on this important day. This will be the only correspondence. Please direct questions to Bloch Student Services, Bloch Heritage Hall room 115 – 816-235-2215.

My congratulations and best wishes to you!
