A new application process through the International Academic Programs Office has been put in place for all students wishing to participate in a study abroad experience. You can search program information and link to the application at http://info.umkc.edu/international/. Please note that the preferred browser for the application program is Firefox.
There are several steps to the application process - signature documents, application questionnaires, recommendations and deposit.
The deposit will be paid on-line as part of the application process. The amount due for deposit is as follows:
- $700 for London (January and Summer), Spain/Portugal (January), Spain (Summer), Hong Kong (Summer) and China (Summer)
- $800 for South Africa (Summer)
All portions of the application including the deposit must be completed before it will be considered.
Students will be charged a one-time, non-refundable subscription fee of $25 once a decision is made on their application.
Students are encouraged to apply early to secure their spot. The application deadline for January trips will be Thursday, October 30. For summer 2015 trips, students should apply by April 9, 2015.
Application Review & Notification
Completed applications are reviewed as they are received. A committee of faculty members involved in the study abroad program reviews each application. Students submitting a completed application by the application deadline date will have a decision before the first scheduled class meeting. Notification of application status will be sent to the student's UMKC email account.
A capacity of 24 is set for each trip. Generally this is the largest number of guests that can be accommodated by many of our business visits. Each trip leader has the authority to change the capacity as needed.
Who Can Participate?
Preference for spots is given to degree-seeking Bloch School students and those pursuing the Business or Entrepreneurship Minor. However students from other academic units at UMKC are welcome to apply. To be eligible, you must have completed one semester at UMKC prior to the start of the trip. Undergraduate applicants must have a 2.75 UM GPA. A transfer GPA will be reviewed for students who entered UMKC in fall 2014 for January trips. The transfer GPA will also be used for students entering UMKC in spring 2015 and applying for summer 2015 trips. Graduate students must be in good standing.
Students from other universities may apply as well. Beyond the application, these students will need to apply for admission to a UMKC degree program or for entry as a non-degree-seeking student. Certain restrictions apply to non-degree-seeking enrollment. Please take a moment to review our visiting student requirements.
The university may have additional requirements for participation in study abroad programs that must be met. See the International Academic Programs website for more information.
What Does the Deposit Cover?
The deposit will be credited toward the cost of accommodations as these arrangements must be made (and paid for) well in advance of departure. Note, the cost of accommodations may change and your deposit may not cover the final cost. The final cost may be higher than the original deposit amount due demand and/or currency fluctuations. You may be asked to pay additional monies to cover the cost of in-country transportation, entrance fees, business visit fees, etc. Additional payments may be sought before and/or after the trip.
