KANSAS CITY GRANTMAKER'S INSTITUTE

A Professional Development Program Series

Designed Specifically for the Staff of Foundations and Other Grantmaking Organizations

FACULTY

The Grantmaker’s Institute is facilitated by two professionals with extensive experience in the field of philanthropy, Gene Wilson and Dave Renz

  • Gene has had a distinguished national career in grantmaking and philanthropy, including service as President of the ARCO Foundation and Senior Vice President of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.  He has provided leadership to numerous regional and national nonprofit sector initiatives, including current work on new leadership and management development initiatives for both the Council on Foundations and Independent Sector.

  • Dave Renz, an experienced educator, researcher, and consultant, serves as the director of the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership at UMKC.  In addition to his teaching and writing on nonprofit organization and board effectiveness, Renz has played leadership roles in the development of many nonprofit agencies and served as an advisor and consultant to Kansas City and national foundations, including the Pew Charitable Trusts and the McKnight Foundation.

  • In addition, Wilson and Renz will draw upon series participants themselves, as well as guest presenters, to offer additional perspectives and insight on the nature of this challenging and rewarding work.
