Joan Israelite, President and CEO of the Arts
Council of Metropolitan Kansas City, will share her perspective on
the role of arts organizations in building our regional community. Joan
will discuss strategies and challenges of efforts to attain increased
public funding for arts and cultural organizations in our metropolitan
area, new partnerships that have been developed with arts and civic
organizations and the impact of arts involvement in the lives of our
children.
Joan has an impressive career of community
involvement, from which she forms her insights and recommendations. She
has served as the coordinator of the Women’s Leadership Institute at
Avila College, the coordinator of the School Age Child Care Coordinator
for Heart of America Family Services, and the Development Director of
the Boys and Girls Clubs, the Lyric Opera and the Kansas City Symphony.
In March 1999, she was selected to develop the newly formed Arts
Council. Joan has also volunteered her leadership skills as a board
member of the Greater KC Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, as President
of the Downtown Sertoma Club and as President of the National Society
for Fundraising Executives.
