Whit Holcomb, Class of 2002 Surgeon in Chief Children's Mercy Hospital
“Even though I am not in a traditional corporate environment as chief of surgery, I still needed administrative leadership skills – many physicians don’t have enough knowledge about the business of medicine. The Bloch EMBA program taught me to think like a CEO – throughout the program, we put in the position of top leadership and learned how to make decisions using a global point of view. At the time I enrolled, there was also a lot of uncertainty about where the healthcare field was going. In addition to helping me in my current position, the program prepared me to go in another direction, like consulting or starting my own business, if I ever needed to.”

Laura Thompson, Class of 2007 Managing Principal of Energy Services Burns & McDonnell
“The quick, 21-month format is one of the main reasons I chose this program. Although it’s intensive, it was important to me to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel – knowing I was going to have my EMBA very soon was rewarding. This program delivers all the quality, but quicker than many others. Fortunately, the student support services are excellent, and keep us from having to worry about anything but learning.”

Dave Maddox, Class of 2000 Manager of Information Technology Hallmark Cards, Inc.
“Prior to attending UMKC, my profession was primarily technology focused, so my methods for addressing business problems, and the tools I used to subsequently solve business problems, were definitely lacking. The EMBA specifically did two things to enhance my career: It provided me with a solid base of management skills that have allowed me to be a more effective manager, and it opened the door to career opportunities that would not have been accessible to me without the EMBA.”

Michael Campo, Class of 2001 Vice President Lockton Companies
"The most impressive thing to me was that the program delivered as advertised. The program's basis that the private setor, public sector and government are intertwined really became evident. The way UMKC EMBA married the conepts into the module format enhanced my understanding of how to maximize the value of any organization and departments within organizations."

Jan Kauk, Class of 2006 Executive Director Northland Community Foundation
"I went from owning my own business to being CEO of a civic organization. The EMBA program is part of the reason I was offered this opportunity. The program allowed me to take my professionalism in the business community to the next level. The network of people you are connected with through this program is outstanding. It was a Bloch EMBA alumni who encouraged me to look into the program, and I in turn introduced a colleague of mine to the program. In addition, while I was in the program, a classmate helped me recruit an important board member to my organization. Everyone in the program was very sensitive to students balancing a full-time job and family, and they really helped make it manageable."

Dick Gibson, Class of 2002 Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce
"The EMBA program does two important things for you: 1) it provides you with up-to-date tools to tackle those real-world problems that plague every leader/manager; and 2) it provides you business contacts/resources (classmates, community leaders, and faculty) that can help when needed. While the EMBA program is extremely challenging, it is worth the effort. The program gave me a fresh look at business practices and my approach to decision making and solving business problems at the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce."

Dave Ebbrecht, Class of 2008 Senior Vice President of Operations KC Southern
"The Bloch Executive MBA profoundly confronts the challenges leaders face in today's corporate environment and provides a range of tools to apply to specific problems. The course schedule also allowed me to continue my career while learning invaluable skills."
