Leon Robertson is Professor of Strategic and International Management at the Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration at UMKC. He also has been a Professor of Management at Georgia State University and a Visiting Professor at the University of Applied Science in Augsburg, Germany. Robertson received a B.S. and an M.S. from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Georgia State University. Robertson studied in the Ph.D. program in Economics at the University of Oklahoma and has done post-graduate study in Operations Research at the University of Michigan and International Business at the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird). Robertson’s background also includes 20 years in industry as a manager with Andersen Consulting, as Senior Vice President at Texas Gas Resources and as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of American Carriers.
Robertson’s current research interests include applied research in international business strategy, the internationalization of Kansas City public corporations, corporate governance and international entrepreneurship. Robertson has developed an extensive internet directory for international business research. The directory, entitled International Business Internet Research Directory (IBIRD), is organized into ten major components with several thousand links to sources of international business information. IBIRD is used extensively for academic research and for applied research by business firms. Robertson is currently adding a new major component to IBIRD for conducting research in international entrepreneurship.
Robertson has received numerous awards in recognition for his teaching, consulting and applied research. He is a recipient of the Gray Award for Innovative Teaching and the Pierson Award for Outstanding University Teaching at UMKC. Robertson’s honors include a Senate Resolution from the State of Georgia for consulting on the reorganization of state government. He has developed many executive programs for organizations such as General Motors Corporation, Ford Motor Company, Southern Company, Oxford Industries, Texas Gas Resources, U.S. Civil Service Commission, National Aeronautics and Space Administration and others. Robertson’s publications include a series of articles on corporate business leaders in the Atlanta Economic Review, A Study of Boards of Directors in Kansas City and a Strategic Management Handbook.
