Dr. Sunny Li Sun is an assistant professor of entrepreneurship and innovation at the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Henry W. Bloch School of Management. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Dallas, a masters of philosophy from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a B.A. from Renmin University of China.
His research interests include new venture creation and financing, business models, entrepreneurial firm growth, internationalization M&A and corporate governance.
Experienced in the areas of raising capital, startup management and bootstrapping, Sun was co-founder and CFO of Miaxis Biometrics, a startup company focusing on the innovation of the fingerprint algorithm and production of advanced fingerprint identification modules. He also worked as VP of the Department of M&A at Guosen Securities Co.; director of Huitong Holdings Co., Ltd., and as a partner with Syno Captial Inc.
Sun has conducted consulting projects for companies such as Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Guangdong Nuclear Power, Sinopec and ChinaHR.com. He is a popular columnist in CEO & CIO China, a leading magazine on entrepreneurship and innovation. He also is engaged in academic community activities including AAOM, AOM, AIB, IACMR and USASBE.
He has published research articles in top academic journals, including Strategic Management Journal, Journal of World Business, Academy of Management Perspectives, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, Multinational Business Review and Asian Case Research Journal.
Sun’s 16th book, Watching China from the United States’ Balcony, was recently published by Science Press, Beijing.
