O. Homer Erekson is Dean and Harzfeld Professor of Economics and Business Policy at the Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration at UMKC. Erekson holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1980) and B.A. degrees in Economics and Political Science, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from Texas Christian University (1974). Erekson’s research and teaching interests center on various policy areas, including corporate and public policy, environmental economics and management, economics of education finance, and business ethics. He is on the Board of Directors of The Economic Club of Kansas City, Co-Chair of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Economic Advisory Board, and a Trustee of the Missouri Council on Economic Education.
Erekson has more than 50 publications, including articles in journals such as Econometrica, Southern Economic Journal, National Tax Journal, International Journal of Environmental Technology and Management, Economics of Education Review, Journal of Economic Education, Applied Economics, Social Science Quarterly, Journal of Education Finance, and Research in Higher Education. Erekson has been active in many different professional organizations and as a program chair and presenter for national AACSB conferences. His international experience includes conferences and workshops in China, Singapore, Japan, Norway, the Czech Republic, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Erekson has been a Lilly Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow, recognized in Who’s Who in Business Higher Education, and was the recipient of the Instructional Innovation Award by the Decision Sciences Institute.
