Shad Dowlatshahi is professor of operations management. He has developed and taught a variety of operations management and quality courses. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from The University of Iowa. He holds a MBA degree as well as an M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Emporia State University and the University of Missouri - Columbia, respectively. He has an undergraduate degree in Industrial Management. Dowlatshahi’s career spans several years of educational administration, business, and industrial experience from which he has gained international business and effective managerial experience. Dowlatshahi has been active in civic and professional organizations throughout his life.

Dowlatshahi’s research activities focus on operations management, supply chain management, service operations, manufacturing systems and strategy, technology management, concurrent engineering, purchasing and materials management, quality management, information system design, business logistics and transportation, statistics, and management sciences. He has more than 100 journal articles, books, book chapters and proceedings published in refereed academic and professional outlets. He has presented and published extensively in the national conferences. He has been the principal investigator for six major sponsored projects with budgets totaling nearly $200,000. He has also served as a member of the editorial board and/or referee for a number of academic and professional journals.

Dowlatshahi was the sole recipient of the Chancellor's Outstanding Teaching Award given by the University of Texas System. He has also received several other prestigious teaching awards throughout his teaching career. He has been able to establish good rapport with his students and teach complicated subjects. The dean of the Bloch School also nominated him for the university-wide Trustees' Faculty Fellowships and N. T. Veatch Award for Distinguished Research and Creativity. Dowlatshahi has been awarded the ‘Faculty of the Year Award’ and has also received the ‘Certificate of Outstanding Service Award’ from his previous employment. He is an active member of DSI, APICS, CLM, ISM, and INFORMS.
