Advising

Academic advising is a central part of what the Bloch Student Services office does. It is how we help you stay on track and graduate! 


Remember to check your UMKC email.

Please remember that UMKC students are responsible for information that relates to their degree programs. This includes not only such things as GPA requirements, but material contained in the graduate/undergraduate catalog from the year the student was admitted to UMKC. Current and past UMKC catalogs can be found here.

Is advising required?

  • New students at all levels must be advised before registering for classes.
  • Continuing students must meet with an advisor as indicated below.
  • You will not be allowed to register for classes if advising is required.

Who advises me?

The following degree programs are advised out of the Student Services Office:

  • Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting (BSA) 
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) 
  • Master of Entrepreneurial Real Estate (MERE)
  • Master of Science in Finance (MSF)--advising shared with MS Finance faculty
  • Business Minor
  • Entrepreneurship Minor

Undergraduate students are assigned to one of three advisors by the first letter of their last name:

  • Asia Williams advises students with last names starting A-G
  • Scott Ezzell advises students with last names H-M
  • Erica Hoffman advises students with last names N-Z

The primary MBA  and MSF advisor is Nancy Wilkinson. Other Student Services staff advise on these programs as well.

MERE advising responsibiities are shared by all Student Services advising staff.

The following degree programs are advised by faculty in that department.

  • Master of Public Administration (MPA) 
  • Master of Science in Accounting (MSA)

When can I be advised?

The Bloch Student Services Office will begin advising after the schedule is released for a given semester. We recommend coming in for advising as soon as the schedule has been released to insure you have the broadest choice of classes.
