Bloch Scholarships

The Henry W. Bloch School of Management awards more than $130,000 annually to its students.

General Scholarship Information

  • The Bloch Student Services Office will accept scholarship applications no later than March 1, 2012, at 5 p.m. (unless otherwise noted).
  • Applications that are not complete will not be considered.
  • Decisions will be made by scholarship committees composed of faculty members, usually no later than the end of winter semester.
  • Students are notified by e-mail soon after decisions are made.

Financial Information

  • Final award amounts will not be available until the time the awards are given unless otherwise noted.
  • Although students are not prohibited from receiving more than one Bloch School scholarship, the scholarship committees attempt to distribute awards to the greatest number of students.
  • Scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis, half of the amount disbursed each semester (fall and winter), unless otherwise specified.
  • Scholarships specifying financial need require eligibility for federal financial aid as determined by the UMKC Financial Aid Office.
  • Students who receive awards designated as “renewable” must reapply for the award the next year and also must continue to meet the stated requirements in order to be renewed for a second year.

Undergraduate students in the bachelor of science in accounting program. Preference given to students with financial need.

Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA)
Scholarship
Junior or senior pursuing the bachelor of science in accounting or graduate student pursuing the master of science in accounting who has an interest or experience in the construction field. This might include work experience in the construction field, interest in a career in a career in the construction field or having a parent or other influential family member with a career in the construction field.  Varies  

Other accounting awards

A variety of scholarships and awards are awarded annually to outstanding undergraduate and graduate accounting students. These scholarships are provided by international and regional accounting firms, the department itself, and alumni. All awards are based on merit. Criteria includes academic performance, demonstrated leadership, and professional service. Supporting organizations may establish additional criteria. Interested students should complete the Bloch School Scholarship application. For more specific details about these awards, contact the Department of Accountancy.

Undergraduate students in the Bloch School participating in study abroad or People to People opportunities can be considered for the award.

Jim Benson Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate student in the Bloch School with demonstrated financial need and an independence of mind and entrepreneurial spirit similar to that exemplified by Jim Benson. Preference is given to students who have struggled academically but who have demonstrated an offsetting personal drive and commitment to success. Students must be in good academic standing.

Henry Bloch Scholarship

First-time freshmen majoring in business or accounting. Students must be Missouri residents and have demonstrated financial need. Selection is based on academic performance and potential for success. Scholarship award winners may renew the scholarship for a total of three additional years as long as they remain in good standing. Scholarship winners are also required to continuously update donor on academic and personal progress.

Undergraduate or graduate student in Business Administration with outstanding academic record.

Ernest A. Dick Memorial Fund Scholarship for International Study

Award given to undergraduate or graduate students in the Bloch School for a study abroad opportunity.

Thomas H. Holcom “Make A Difference” Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate or graduate student in the Bloch School. Selection is based on academic achievement, community involvement, professional excellence and financial need. Student will be at least a junior, hold a minimum 3.0 GPA and have a proven track record in community and volunteer activities during college career. Student shall be employed while attending college, preferably in a position that compliments their degree.

Edward D. Lynch Memorial Scholarship

Award given to Bloch School student interested in a career in the insurance profession. Preference given to students interested in property and casualty insurance issues.

Award given to graduate student in the Bloch School. Selection is based on academic achievement and potential for success.

Caroline E. Schutte Scholarship

Award is given to top female business students enrolled full-time. Preference is given to students in the junior year.

Edward A. Smith Urban Leadership Internship Program

This internship opportunity will provide a select number of Bloch students (junior/senior BBA or BSA students; MBA, MSA, MSF, MERE, or MPA) with a full time, paid internship in a non-profit organization for a 10-week period during the summer, together with a three-credit independent study/seminar and faculty mentoring in leadership development. Please note this is a separate application from the Bloch Scholarship application. Click here for more information. Applications for summer 2012 will be reviewed in March 2012 with application due March 1, 2012.

$6,000 for ten weeks, plus one hour elective credit.

Student Entrepreneur of the Year

Upper level undergraduate or graduate student with 3.0 GPA. Honored at the Entrepreneur of the Year award dinner. Detailed information can be found here. Study Abroad Scholarships

Undergraduate and graduate students in the Bloch School participating in Bloch sponsored study abroad. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Kevin Vance Memorial Scholarship in Business

Undergraduate or graduate student in business administration.

FINANCE

 

 

Robert L. Greene Scholarship

Full time junior/senior student majoring in finance or economics. Selection based on scholastic merit, leadership ability, and financial need. Renewable as long as the student remains full time in undergraduate finance or economics.

Kansas City CFA Scholarship

Award given to MBA student with finance emphasis with aspirations to pursue the CFA credential. Students must have completed an undergraduate degree with a major or emphasis in accounting or finance and preferably have some working experience. A demonstrated commitment and passion for the field of financial planning and wealth management is required. Scholarship winner will be asked to meet with the KCCFA Society after the award selection and will have the opportunity to network with future colleagues.

Mazuma Credit Union Scholarship

Undergraduate student in the Bloch School who is a resident of Jackson, Clay or Cass counties and has a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average. Preference will be given to students who have a record of community service with YouthFriends or other volunteer activity during their undergraduate career with a preference for volunteer activity that services children and youth. In addition to the scholarship application, applicants must write an essay on the following topic, "As a consumer, what are your expectations, desires, and needs with regard to the services offered by the retail finance industry (for example, credit unions, banks) and how might the implementation of your suggestions improve the retail finance industry?"

Maudie and Jim Miller Scholarship in OB and Management

Undergraduate or graduate students completing an emphasis in Enterprise Management, Management or Leadership & Change. Selection is based on the potential for academic achievement with preference given to students with financial need.

Undergraduate business student interested in general management with leadership skills and volunteer experience. Preference given to students who are of African-American, Hispanic or Native American heritage.

REAL ESTATE

Lewis, Rice & Fingersh Real Estate Scholarship

Undergraduate or graduate students with a 3.0 GPA who are enrolled in a course in the Lewis White Real Estate Center who are either a Bloch School student or are currently employed in the real estate field who would like to enroll at UMKC. Students must have a stated interest in a real estate career and/or be currently employed in the real estate area. Preference is given to minority students and those demonstrating financial need.

Sherman Dreiseszun Undergraduate or graduate students with a 3.0 who are enrolled in a course in the Lewis White Real Estate Center who are either a Bloch School student or are currently employed in the real estate field who would like to enroll at UMKC. Students must have a stated interest in a real estate career and/or be currently emplyed in the real estate area. Preference is given to students demonstrating financial need. Varies
Allen J. Block Scholarship Fund Undergraduate or graduate students with a 3.0 who are enrolled in a course in the Lewis White Real Estate Center who are either a Bloch School student or are currently employed in the real estate field who would like to enroll at UMKC. Students must have a stated interest in a real estate career and/or be currently emplyed in the real estate area. Preference is given to students demonstrating financial need.  $3,500

 OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS

KYTV
Scholarship 

Each year KYTV in Springfield, MO awards a $1000 scholarship to two deserving students planning to pursue degrees in broadcasting-related courses. This includes students working on degrees not only in broadcasting, but in accounting, marketing, communications, engineering, journalism and mass media, all of which you would find working at any broadcast company. 2011 Application.
