Shanghai, China in 2010

Study International Business and travel to Shanghai, China!
Faculty:
Dr. Marilyn Taylor, Gottlieb/Missouri Professor of Strategic Management, will lead the Shanghai program for the second year. Dr. Taylor has considerable international experience, including being a Fulbright Scholar as well as director of the Bloch EMBA international residencies in Asia. Dr. Sidne Ward, Associate Professor of Management Information Systems, will assist Dr. Taylor. Dr. Ward previously lead a trip to Vietnam and has just returned from Nepal where she was at Kathmandu University on a Fulbright awardl. Contact Dr. Ward at wards@umkc.edu.
Dr. Fred Hays, Allendoerfer Professor of Banking and Finance and Director of Bloch School study abroad programs will accompany the group to China for a third consecutive year and will lead the Beijing post trip excursion. He will also lead the London program for the 16th year. Contact Dr. Hays at haysf@umkc.edu.
Course Scheduling:
The course will meet on the UMKC campus during February, March and April, 2010. The one week international residency takes place in May 2010.
Possible Activities in Shanghai:
- Business and political visits to international and local companies such as Citigroup.
- Cultural visits to sites such as the Shanghai Museum and Yuyuan Garden.

Costs:
Students are responsible for the following program costs:
- 3 hours tuition.
- International airfare to/from Shanghai.
- Meals in Shanghai.
- Partial local transportation costs.
- Miscellaneous expenses including entry fees to cultural sites.
- Incidentals.
- Passport costs, if you do not have a passport already.
- University required HTH Health Insurance.
- Visa fees.
- $500 deposit* to be submitted with the program application. The deposit, less $100, is refundable until accommodations must be finalized (by January 31st). If an application is rejected, the entire deposit will be refunded. This deposit covers accommodations and some local transportation.
*Due to currency fluctuations and rising prices, students may be required to pay additional funds prior to the trip.
Post-Trip:
Students can participated in an optional, non-credit post-trip that will visit Beijing and Xi'an.
An administrative fee of $100 is charged for participation in the post trip. Students are responsible for their transportation costs, accommodation expense, meals and entrance fees. Payments for some of these expenses may be collected in the spring to ensure availability rooms, etc.
