Global Education Gives Bloch Students International Edge
Release Date: Sep 08, 2009

In today’s global marketplace, students must gain an understanding of business practices around the world in order to compete successfully. The Bloch School is deeply committed to providing our students with international experiences, expanding and deepening their preparation for global careers.
In 2009, multiple student groups benefited from trips around the world where they were able to visit and learn about the history, culture, politics and business practices in a variety of countries.
The Executive MBA class journeyed to China as part of an intensive residency in which students visit one or more international business center(s) to gain an understanding of business practices, political realities, and social and cultural sensitivities created by the move toward marketplace globalization.
Through Bloch’s Study Abroad program, nearly 60 students experienced global business first-hand. Students visited businesses and political organizations in London, Munich and Shanghai. Whether visiting the foreign operations of Kansas City companies like Cerner, Populous (HOK), and Lockton Insurance, or other multinationals such as Siemens, BMW or McGraw-Hill, students learned first-hand about the complexities and nuances of international business.
Students experienced entrepreneurial enterprises in China including a furniture manufacturer, a specialized pharmaceutical company, a merchant banking firm and an exchange that trades property rights . Other visits included global markets like the Shanghai Stock Exchange and Lloyds of London.
Plans for 2010 Study Abroad include return trips to London (with an optional Paris pre-trip), Munich (with post trips to Innsbruck and Rothenburg), and Shanghai with post trip options to Beijing and Xi’an.
In addition to traveling, Bloch places emphasis on global business throughout program curricula, including an international business emphasis area in the MBA program with courses in global financial markets and institutions, international marketing and global supply chain management through the MBA program.
